Fine Arts

The arts are a crucial component to a well-rounded education and our district encourages our students at every grade level to explore creativity and talents in music, visual arts or performance arts.

At Dover High School, we provide students with the opportunity to participate in numerous fine art fields including an award-winning music program, an art department that consistently produces award-winning artists, and theatrical performances throughout the year in our spectacular auditorium.

Art

If a student elects to participate in art classes at the high school level, the student has an opportunity to explore creativity using a variety of mediums. The student also has a chance to enter work in the Governor's Art Show and have artwork displayed in Columbus, Ohio.

Students enrolled in the art classes also are given the opportunity to join Art Club, where students can further explore their artistic talents and participate in field trips to various museums in the area.

Music

Dover High School offers students a music program that includes show choir, concert choir, marching band, concert band, orchestra and steel drum band.

Choir

The Dover Vocal Music Department is designed to provide vocal music opportunities for students in grades 6-12. Middle School choir members rehearse daily and perform in several concerts during the school year. The 8th Grade Choir members present an annual musical held in the Dover Middle School Auxiliary Gym. Members of the high school choirs, including Treble Ensemble, Concert Choir, and Ars Nova Singers, rehearse daily to provide district concerts and community performances. Members of the Dover Doo Wops present featured acts as part of the Vocal Music Extravaganza offered annually in May. You are invited to visit the Dover Vocal Music Facebook page. Please contact Shawna K Hinkle at [email protected] for additional information regarding the Dover Vocal Music Department.

Dover Choir Boosters

Members of the Dover Choir Boosters provide support for the Dover Vocal Music Department through leadership by growing community awareness and interest in the students participating in the Dover choirs. They are vital to the success of the program.

The marching band, which includes about 135 members, performs at every varsity football game and at numerous competitions around the state of Ohio. Our concert band performs throughout the year in the Dover High School Auditorium. A detailed website with information about the DHS Marching Tornadoes can be found at www.marchingtornadoes.com

Orchestra

Dover is currently home to the only orchestra program in Tuscarawas County and has five separate groups across the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Performing on violins, violas, cellos, and basses, students can first join orchestra in 5th grade and can continue with the program into high school. The orchestras rehearse every day during school hours with the exception of 5th grade orchestra meeting in the mornings before school begins. Each group performs multiple times each year in a number of venues.

The Original Music of Dover High

Dover has an established tradition of musical successes. Our Marching Band (one of Ohio's first) dates back to 1917. All of our school songs are original to Dover.

Words and Music by L. H. Alexander

We lift our voices in praise of thee,
Dear Dover High.
Thy gray and crimson let all men see
floating on high
In victory's thrill or in defeat.
From truth and right, we'll ne'er retreat.

Fairest Alma Mater, unfurl thy banner fair.
May each son and daughter learn to do and dare.
Memories dear we'll cherish of our school days free.
Dear old Dover High, we'll always loyal be.

Words and Music by L. H. Alexander

Crimson Tornado -- Blow! blow! blow!
Crimson Tornado -- Go! go! go!
Right through the line.
Gain every time.*
Let us remind you, we're all behind you.

Crimson Tornado -- treat them rough!
Come on old Dover, let's get tough!
We'll win tonight
Fight team let's fight!*

Crimson Tornado go!

*alternate lyrics:*
Right down the floor.
Run up the score.

We'll win today
Hip! hip! hooray!

Words and Music by Frank R. Caputo
CHORUS:
Fight on! Tornadoes! Victory is in sight;
Onward, let's go!
We'll do the best - Fight with all our might.
Before the battle is over, we shall conquer all;
So we should stand,
Let our voices ring for dear old Dover High!

Original Verse:
March on! Dover High! In all we do let's lead the way;
We're brave and true to the school we love,
And for our Alma Mater fight.

Oh, hail the Crimson and the Grey!
Let's keep those colors flying high,
Then give a cheer as we go into victory!
Dover High goes marching on!
